Bern is the Capital of Switzerland and the Bellevue Palace stands right next door to the Bundeshaus, or Federal Palace. With its miles of arcades and historic fountains, the old town of Bern is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site; of particular note is the Zytglogge astronomical clock created in 1530. The BärenPark is the symbol of a city with a broad cultural heritage that includes the Zentrum Paul Klee. In the summer, the recreation area along the banks of the River Aare is ideal for strolling, jogging and swimming. The environs of Bern open onto the Emmental valley and the Schwarzenburger District, one of the loveliest pre-alpine landscapes in Switzerland.
